Our spiritual quest for truth continues.
On Day 3 we discussed the existence of a conscious intelligence that programmed our DNA and the cells and atoms of everything around us. Once we realize that we are not here by chance but by deliberate intention, we naturally come to Why?
There are some who believe we were put here for entertainment value, our days playing out as an endless charade and then we die and that is that.
Does that resonate with your heart or is it an empty thought? If you are visiting this site, it is because you understand that each of us has the innate desire and the ability to grow and change. Growth brings fulfillment, and this is an indication that this is what we were programmed to do.
Messengers
If you are familiar with video games or stories of quests, you know that there are always messengers placed along the path of the adventure to help the hero figure out what their true purpose is. I believe the Great Intelligence who programmed us, God as I know Him, has provided many messengers along our journey.
Each of us has individual messengers sent only to us, and it is difficult sometimes to distinguish between the endless chaotic noise of existence and the specific messages meant for us.
There are others who carry their message to all. There is truth that applies to each part of our lives, and different people have been chosen to lead humanity to specific truths for health or simplicity or confidence. We will be learning from many of them over this year.
But today we focus on figures through history who carry messages of spiritual truth to help us find our way. Some are well known: Buddha, Ghandi, Jesus Christ and the Christian prophets, and modern teachers like Wayne Dyer. Most of the teachings of the Greats concentrate on how we interact with and love other people and how we gain strength to master ourselves.
Note that spirituality is not exclusive. You can be Christian and benefit from the Tao or Buddhist teachings. You can be Buddhist and study the truths in Christianity. It is an important skill to be able to read teachings that aren’t in exact alignment with yours and be able to find the truths that resonate while just appreciating the ones that are not right for you.
New Habit:
- Beginner: Choose to create a habit to spend 10 minutes every day reading the words of great spiritual teachers, take time to communicate with God, and begin to learn the messages He has provided to guide you on your own quest. A habit is easiest to create if you attach it to something else. For instance, do something each day right when you wake up, or right after the first thing you always do when you wake up. So right now (1) decide specifically what time you will read each day, (2) choose which teacher you will read first, and (3) find the book that you will begin with. This is separate from our 30 minute reading habit; this is 10 minutes dedicated specifically to spiritual reading and pondering.
- Next Level: choose a time each day to listen to a spiritual and/or religious podcast. Maybe when you are driving or cleaning.
Journal: As you read the words of these people, write down the thoughts that stand out to you or seem to be speaking directly to you.
