Continual learning is part of self-development, and science shows us that we are continually structuring our brain during the process of learning. New information or skills cause our brains to create new pathways. Disuse and bad health habits cause the opposite, brain deterioration. According to CogniFit Research, “active brain cells receive more blood . . . have more connections with other brain cells . . . produce more ‘maintenance’ substances. . .[and] stimulate the migration of beneficial cells from the brain stem” (Neurons & Active Brain Cells (cognifit.com))
By now you should understand I am all about optimizing the time we already spend doing necessary but mindless things and using that time for personal growth. So today I am going to go there, bathroom time. We all have to spend time there. So why not make the most of it?
This is the perfect place to keep a pile of lighter educational reading that you wouldn’t read anywhere else. I have found that as dry as most textbooks were when I went to school, there are many textbooks aimed towards homeschoolers that are treasure troves of information and really interesting.
